IRA Plan Types

Equity Trust offers a variety of retirement plans to suit your investment needs, including:

Traditional IRA - A Traditional IRA personal savings plan offers tax advantages for individuals to set aside money for retirement. Contributions are made with pre-tax dollars, and account balances compound tax-free until funds are withdrawn.

Roth IRA - This IRA offers tax advantages for individuals to set aside money for retirement, by making contributions with after-tax dollars. Account balances compound and funds withdrawn are tax-free if the account is at least five years old and the account owner is over 59 1/2 years of age.

Roth Conversion - Should you choose to do so, you may convert amounts from a Traditional IRA into a Roth. To do so, for the tax year you make the withdrawal from the Traditional IRA, your modified adjusted gross income for Roth IRA purposes is not more than $110,000 and you are not a married individual filing a separate return. Please note that such a conversion is a taxable event.

Simplified Employee Pension Plan (SEP) - The Simplified Employee Pension Plan (SEP) enables individuals to make IRA contributions of up to $44,000 toward their own and their employees' retirement, without getting involved in a more complex qualified plan such as a 401(k).

With a SEP, contributions are made to an Equity Trust IRA set up by, or for, each eligible employee. SEP IRAs are owned and controlled by the employee. The employer makes contributions to his own SEP IRA, as well as the SEP IRA of any employees, and must contribute the same percentage for all eligible employees.

Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE) - The Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE) was designed as an IRA plan especially for small businesses with 100 or fewer employees. It allows these businesses to offer a tax-advantaged, company-sponsored retirement plan to their employees.

With a SIMPLE plan, employees can choose to make salary reduction/deferral contributions directly into an Equity Trust SIMPLE IRA, rather than receiving these amounts as part of their regular salary. Employer contributions are required in the SIMPLE plan. The matching contribution for any year must equal an employee's deferral, but not to exceed the 3% of compensation.

Individual(k) IRA - The Individual(k), also known as the Solo(k), offers sole proprietors the same benefits as conventional 401(k) plans. This plan is only appropriate for a sole proprietor or a business (either a partnership or a corporation) in which only the owner(s) and spouse(s) will be covered. It must be the only plan maintained by the business and the business cannot be considered part of a controlled group under tax law.

Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA) - The Coverdell Education Savings Account is a trust or custodial account created for the purpose of paying qualified education expenses of the designated beneficiary of the account. When the account is established, the designated beneficiary must be under age 18 or be a special needs beneficiary.

Health Savings Account (HSA) - Health Savings Accounts are savings plans that allow the account holder to immediately reduce their health insurance premiums (up to 70% in many plans) and to set aside funds to pay current and future medical expenses. To be eligible to establish an HSA, an individual or family must be covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
