The Motley Fool Tells You Why You Need a Self-Directed IRA

By Brendan Hughes0 Comments

It’s not often that a financial education website most often associated with traditional investments publishes an article titled, “Why You Need a Self-Directed IRA,” but that is what The Motley Fool did recently.

Author Dan Caplinger dispels the myth that only stocks, bonds and mutual funds can be held in IRAs and lists out reasons why self-directed IRAs can be attractive to some investors including: greater diversification, tax advantages, and the ability to access capital previously thought to be locked away.

The article is clear that there are differences that investors need to be aware of with self-directed IRAs and that everyone should complete due diligence with custodians before opening a self-directed IRA.  However, it is clear from this article that self-directed IRAs continue to become a more popular option among investors.
