Thinking about Converting to a Roth IRA? Consider Acting Now

By Elsie Dudukovich0 Comments

Some people find it beneficial to convert funds from a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA, known as a Roth conversion.  Please note, a Roth conversion has tax implications because funds are moved from one tax environment to another.

The IRS deadline for Roth conversions is December 31, 2017.  While it may seem like a long way until the end of the year, researching with your financial professional and preparing to complete a Roth conversion has the potential to be a complex undertaking.

If you are considering this action for 2017, budget enough time to allow for the submission and processing of all the necessary forms and documentation before December 1, 2017.
  • Requests received after December 1 will be subject to an Expedited Processing Service Fee if they need to be processed by year-end.
  • Processing by December 31, 2017 is not guaranteed for requests received after December 15, 2017.
  • If you are submitting a request that does not need to be processed by the end of December, please indicate that with your request.
  • Tax withholdings cannot be completed for distribution requests received after December 16, 2017.
